Off-Duty Double Denim

Although last season saw double denim become the easiest go-to trend for off-duty days, pulling off the look can still be somewhat tricky. If the colours are too close then you risk Canadian Tuxedo fever. If you wear battered up shoes with it, then things can all start to look a little bit like your dad back in the late 80s doing some DIY, before you were even born. Not tres chic.
So for days when you really dont want to put brain into action and actually think about what to wear, simply autopilot into a double denim heaven of blue frayed skinnies and an oversized chambray shirt. Mules are pretty much off the menu for this season now, so stake your claim to a pair of slick ankle boots or mannish flats instead.

The Statement Heel Boot

Dior did it. Acne did it. Simone Rocha and Roberto Cavalli did it. And now the statement heel has trickled or more like stomped its way through onto the great British high street to make a stamp on the new season shoe scene. Step into Zara, walk into Topshop, and youre sure to see a shoe, boot, or shoe-boot variation perched on top of an artsy block heel.

Topshop's tortoiseshell heeled boots have been causing such a stir over Instagram and let's face it, they are rather nice, aren't they? I picked up the knee-high Carmen boot, and the Mistic ankle boot (now unavailable online). But let me tell you ladies and high-heel wearing gentlemen, avoid the Carmen boots at all costs if you have more than 'shapely' calves. My feet come in at a pretty minuscule size 3, but I wasn't expecting to find that these boots had been made for actual 3 year olds: the fit on the calf is so tight it was like a corset for my calf fat. Sexy, no? Cue, a lot of wearing to stretch them out properly, leading to pins and needles legs and at one point, a weird rash from the elastic. But like they say, beauty is pain (or so I keep telling myself...)

Swapping Heels for Trainers

Fashion's love affair with trainers is still going strong, but had you met me three years ago and asked me "When was the last time you wore flat shoes?" I'd have looked at you blankly, raised a (not on fleek) eyebrow, a tumbleweed would have blown by, and I'd have simply replied I can't remember. I was a heels girl through and through. Block heeled ankle boots, sky-high stilettos, perfectly pointed court shoes- you name it, if it had some blockish form elevating me a good few inches off the ground, then it would be the only thing gracing my feet. But moving to London and realising that walking absolutely everywhere was an unfortunate necessity of my new life that didn't bode well with my high-heel wearing feet simply happened to coincide with trainers becoming cool. And although I'd still never turn down a pair of vampish, vertigo inducing shoes over some brashly coloured sneakers, the allure of a box fresh pair of white trainers gets me into a little bit of a frenzy like no other.

The thing is, not all white trainers were created equal. Executed in premium crisp textiles, Lacoste's Straightset in off white delivers style and quality in a muted palette. Perfect for this season, the tennis- inspired silhouette offers the label's trademark easy elegance with tonal laces keeping the look clean. Sit them alongside tailoring for a fresh, urban touch to workwear, a complete antidote to the commuter-chic vibes you often see when you play trainers up against office staples. Rubber outsoles and leather linings enhance comfort and nod towards Lacostes athletic heritage, whilst subtle sophistication comes from exquisite levels of details on the embossed croc logo. Silky nappa edged in a tonal suede collar make this shoe feel so of the moment.

For the Autumn/Winter 2015 season, Lacoste has referenced its tennis roots without resorting to literal recreations, reflecting the brands dedication to respecting its past while looking firmly to the future. The footwear collection is underpinned by the idea that Life is a Beautiful Sport, a concept that seamlessly brings Lacostes sophisticated blend of performance and elegance to the everyday.

Say Goodbye to Summer

Before sinking into two seasons of heavy knits, heavy coats, and even heavier rain, I had to spend the last few days of summer embracing its style of Ibiza white blouses and rich denim. But now its officially September, and quite frankly, a little too nippy to be wearing off the shoulder tops on a daily basis without giving onlookers way more than they bargained for, its time to say sayonara to the old season, and hiya (struggling there) to the new one.

So whilst the Chloe-esque Bardot top is getting shoved into a suitcase to never be seen again (unless anyone fancies a last minute holiday- anyone??) the denim button through can be taken right through to the new season, replacing the wispy white cotton piece with a richly textured roll-neck.
One thing that still has me reminiscing about the four days of exotic paradise I spent on the Costa Del Sol (that sentence is dripping with more sarcasm than my umbrella) is my tan handbag. I picked it up on a market stall in the local square, but for those of you wanting to get a slice of this one-of-a-kind tooled handbag action, the best high street I can find you can be found at Warehouse (via ASOS)!
